Purchase Your Etext, CollegeScope
Instead of purchasing a printed text, there is a fee of $50 to access your online e-text.  The first time you log into
http://www.collegescope.com/ccs/cuyamaca, click on the "Register Here" button. You will use your e-mail address as your login ID and you will be asked to create a password for your CollegeScope account. Make sure to write down your e-mail address and password that you create so that you can log in to your e-text each week.  After you have created your account, log in with your e-mail address and the password that you created.

Complete the Assessments to begin your etext (70 points)
Your etext is personalized for you based on your personality type and learning style.  It is important to do this step carefully to get the best results from your e-text.

The first thing you will do is take a Content Survey of all the topics in the text.  Then you will complete the assessment of your personality and learning style. To get the most value from your e-text, it is important that you complete these assessments in a careful and honest way. On these assessments, there are no answers that are better than others. We all have different personality types and learning styles and every type has strengths that can be used to be successful in college and in choosing a career. Do not answer the questions the way you think an ideal person would answer them.  It is important to answer the questions honestly in the way that describes you the best. The assessment is easy, but long.  Pick a time when you are not tired and have plenty of time. If you get tired during the assessment, take a break or come back to it later (you can save where you left off).  After you have finished the assessments, go to My Portfolio where you can see the results of your Content Survey. Read "My DWYA Report" and "My PEPS Report" for an interesting description of your personality and learning style.  You will be using these reports in future chapters throughout this course.  If you have any trouble with CollegeScope, send me an email or email their support desk at:

Week 2: March 1-7  CollegeScope Chapter 1: Understanding Motivation (20 points)
Click on the CollegeScope link in the previous line or go to this site to get started:

http://www.collegescope.com/ccs/cuyamaca

Use your login and password to go to My Portfolio.  Go to "Start College & Career Success."  Click on Chapter 1, Understanding Motivation.  While reading the chapter, complete the quizzes and online journals.  I have access to your portfolio and read your work and post your grades on Blackboard.  Note that you must complete the quizzes and journals to progress in the program.  Once you go to the next page, your work is saved and you cannot change it.

The online journals are a way to increase your reading comprehension and to personally interact with the text and think about how you can apply the material to enhance your personal success.  Generally each journal entry should be a thoughtful paragraph rather than a phrase or sentence for the answer.  The quizzes are designed to help with reading comprehension.  I give you full credit for the quizzes if you score 80% or higher.  You will receive 10 points for the journal entries and 10 points for the quizzes and activities within the chapter.
